Dami Fawehinmi

Hi! My name is Dami Fawehinmi and I am a second-year combined honours student at Newcastle University. I am also the creator of Journals Of Dami a media page dedicated to amplifying the narratives and experiences of Black womxn, Visuals By J.O.D. my photography and wall decor prints company and The Noir Narrative an art collective for Black artists all over the world.

Being a Black queer womxn , I know exactly what it feels like to be underrepresented, however, through the power of social media it has given many groups the platform to raise their voices and create their own tables, share unique stories and help others.

During lockdown it gave me the ability to slow down and take a break so I could come back with a fresh mind, fresh ideas and new opportunities. While lockdown was very weird at first, it soon became our new normal and with the Black Lives Matter movement it is changing society as we know it. Such a movement cannot last only for a moment but for a life time, it is important to protect all Black lives by understanding your privileges and changing the world to become equal.

I am excited to see what is in store post-lockdown and help change the world around us too.
